YouGov Survey Reveals Top British Brands in 2011
The annual BrandIndex league table complied by YouGov has revealed the UK's top performing brands in terms of consumer ratings for 2011.
For the second time running, Google, Amazon and M&S have been crowned as the top three brands in Britain.
To qualify for positions in the chart, brands were measured on a range of criteria, including customer satisfaction, corporate reputation, general impression, quality, value and likelihood of consumers recommending them.
Google came first with a rating of 60.1, which demonstrates its dominance of the search market in brand awareness. This was closely followed by digital rival Amazon at 58.7 (one of the only brands to improve their overall index over the past year) and then M&S at 54.6.
The only other two brands who rose on the chart scores were Colgate and Cathedral City, while Dove was distinguished by being the only new entrant to make the grade, ousting Nokia.
YouGov's Associate Director for the BrandIndex, Sarah Murphy, commented: "It's been a tough year for the leading brands, very few have managed to improve their perceptions in consumers' eyes. However, many outside the leaders have certainly bucked that trend, most notably British Airways, Android and HTC who achieved the highest increase in consumer ratings from 2010 to 2011."
