UK Government Rallies to Improve Its Digital Communications
Plans have been announced by the Government to create a new department dedicated to improving its digital communication strategy.
To this end, they are now recruiting for an Executive Director of Digital position. The successful appointee will be responsible for the setting up of a new service that will effectively deliver the Government's enhanced digital strategy.
Outgoing Permanent Secretary Matt Tee has recommended in his recent report on the future of Government communications that departments should increase their uptake of cheaper digital channels.
Ministers are keen to move more information services online with the aim of saving money. They also want to utilise Government owned websites for the development of public information campaigns in a bid to reduce television advertisement costs.
The move follows Lastminute.com founder Martha Lane Fox's review of online services last year, where she advised that savings could be made by bringing digital communication oversight into a single, centralised place.
The successful applicant for the new role will be offered an annual salary of £142,000 - almost as much as Prime Minister David Cameron. They will be responsible for online marketing and communication via digital channels such as websites, email and Twitter.
