Twitter to launch new paid ad product

It has been reported that popular social networking site Twitter is set to unveil an ad product that allows brands to pay to feature within their 'Who to follow' page section. This is expected to significantly boost brand follower potential.

The new ad product, called Promoted Accounts, is due to be launched at an event in the US later today. Reports currently indicate that Twitter will use the paid data to suggest only relevant brand accounts to the public. Users will choose to then click into the suggested brand account by selecting the Follow button.

The Promoted Accounts product will sit alongside Twitter's Promoted Tweets and Promoted Trends services, which it already offers to brands in the US.

Twitter representatives were in the UK last week discussing their commercial products for the first time with agencies and brands. Currently, no brands in the UK have as yet used Twitter on a paid basis, which Twitter hopes to change.
