Twitter Changes Its Home Page Strategy

The question tag line that previously greeted users on the home page of the micro-blogging site Twitter used to be 'What are you doing?'. This has now been replaced by 'What's happening?'. Twitter has explained that the switch wasn't intended to change the purpose of Twitter but to better reflect how people now use it.

Biz Stone, founder of Twitter, said "The fundamentally open model of Twitter created a new kind of information network and it has long outgrown the concept of personal status updates... Twitter helps you share and discover what's happening now among all the things, people and events you care about. 'What are you doing?' isn't the right question any more".

This move followed Twitter's announcement that it will launch commercial services by the end of the year. Official tools and features to help brands and publishers monetise their Twitter presence are close to launch.

Speaking at a Social media event in London recently, Stone said "We're going to launch a layer of features that allows companies to be better at Twitter, using data ad analytics to ensure they can use it in the best way".
