Study Finds Consumers Prefer Word Of Mouth to Social Networking
A study of more than 2 000 people by Affilinet has revealed that when it comes to sharing online deals and discounts, consumers prefer word of mouth. Only 11% of users were found to share bargains through social networks, compared to 65% through word of mouth.
Product and Marketing Manager at Affilinet, Christine Traub, said, "We found that although only 11% of people share deals, 17% use social networks to research... so there's a disconnect, mainly because people aren't in a purchasing frame of mind when on social networks."
The study also found that 30% of the people surveyed shared deals via email, while 23% normally wouldn't tell anyone at all.
Director of Invitation Digital (the company that developed the VoucherCloud mobile voucher code service), Greg Le Tocq, said, "People will post deal details if the integration with social networks is good, otherwise they won't go out of their way to share deals online."
