Newspaper Tactic Highlights Increase in SEO Trend over Paid Search

Recent changes in the online industry show that a number of high profile businesses are moving away from paid search in favour of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation).

This has been highlighted by a recent change in strategy by the Guardian Newspaper. Reader comments are now being handled on the client side rather than the server side. No longer using java script to display user comments means that not only are they quicker to upload, more crucially they are now able to be indexed by search engines.

Thus user comments can now aid a website in natural search ranking. SEO commentator Malcolm Coles writes on his blog that the move is a welcome one and will make the information more accessible.

This signals the growing trend to use online content as much as possible to boost search ranking, rather than paying for sponsored links.
