News of the World Relaunches As Paid-For Site
News of the World has been redesigned as a paid-for site. An NI spokeswoman has said it now features enhanced news, showbiz and sport content, as well as unique videos and pictures, with faster delivery, mobile access and mobile payment capabilities.
This move makes them the third News International title to introduce a paywall. Access to the new NotW site will cost £1 for 24 hours or £1.99 for four weeks. They will attract user registration by offering £2 free credit, redeemable on the site, which can be spent on two 24-hour passes or unlimited access for the first four weeks for those who subscribe.
A large portion of the new site will focus on video content, delivered through an improved video player. For text content, a Quick Flick reader will allow for greater ease of movement from one story to the next.
Access to News of the World's complementary site Fabulous is included with the subscription. Registered users also have access to a new mobile site using the same login. They will be able to top up their notw.co.uk account using their phone.
