News International Undergoes Major Restructure with Focus on Digital
As part of a broad restructure and reorganisation strategy, News International is currently engaged in creating digital marketing and editorial hubs.
The News Corporation-owned publishing group, which has recently featured prominently in the media due to a phone hacking scandal, has embarked on an editorial initiative to develop their digital business.
It has been reported that 110 out of around 3,000 employees will be axed, however 21 new digitally-focused roles will be created.
News International has not yet confirmed whether these changes will entail the development of a new tabloid title or whether it would encompass editorial for digital platforms across all titles.
Nevertheless, News International is investing in a digital hub which is strongly focused on innovation. The reorganisation of their marketing department will now comprise three core disciplines: brand marketing; acquisition and sales; and customer management.
As part of the restructure, new directors are being appointed to key roles. Their commercial team will also be affected by the changes, with seven directors to be reduced to a team of three permanent staff. There will also be three further temporary role requirements added to explore new ways to develop business opportunities.
