M&S Takes Its Discount Outlet Stores Online

As part of a multiplatform strategy, Marks & Spencer has now launched an online version of its 50 discount outlet stores.

The M&S Outlet website will offer up to 40% off its own clothing ranges plus other brands it carries such as Autograph, Collezione and Per Una.

The site is operated by Amazon, meaning the public can use their Amazon accounts to shop, but because it currently stands separately from the core M&S website, it will not be possible to return items to M&S Outlet or high street stores.

While an M&S spokesperson has said that the decision not to integrate the new online Outlet store with the rest of the business was made because it has been designed "to cater for the way customers are shopping now", it is expected to be integrated with a revamped M&S ecommerce platform which is due to go live to the public in 2013.

The M&S Outlet online launch will be promoted through customers being offered free delivery on all orders over £30 they make with the site until 4 March. Consumers who sign up to the M&S newsletter will also receive 10% off their first order.
