Google Unveils New Nexus S with Gingerbread Android Operating System
Google has revived its Nexus mobile brand with the unveiling of the new Nexus S. Made by Samsung, the device will run version 2.3 of the Android operating system, titled Gingerbread. Features include near-field communications technology, which lets the phone communicate with compatible devices such as payment terminals and digital display ads.
The Nexus S will be sold through Carphone Warehouse and will retail for £550 or £35 a month. Carphone Warehouse has started taking pre-orders for the Nexus S, however they have said it will be on limited release before Christmas.
This new partnership differs from the release of the original Nexus One which was supposed to be sold direct to consumers online but ended up retailing though a partnership with Vodafone across Europe.
VP of Engineering at Google, Andy Rubin, commented, "This device combines hardware innovation by one of our partners, Samsung, with innovations in the Android platform to raise the bar on what's possible when it comes to creating a powerful mobile user experience."
