Expert Says UK Digital Market Over Dominated by Apple, Google and Facebook

A Senior Executive VP at FremantleMedia, Claire Tavernier, has spoken out about how monopolistic the digital landscape has become.

During the MIPCOM festival in Cannes, Tavernier said the market now centres on major players YouTube, Facebook and Apple - this over-consolidation will pose a challenge for content owners over the coming year.

She commented: "It's a concern that the digital market has consolidated around these three dominant players, and it may be a real issue in the next year as it limits the number of people we can talk to about content."

Tavernier also said that she welcomed Amazon's entrance to the digital marketplace with the launch of its tablet device, since this opens up the industry.

Her comments come as FremantleMedia revealed a host of new, global show formats. The company is also set to launch tablet companion apps alongside show brands outside the UK, including the US version of The X Factor. They will then weigh up whether the same model will suit the UK market.
