Converse Unveils Campaign to Turn Their Facebook Fans into Salespeople

Shoe brand Converse is launching a campaign to boost sales by asking its 20 million Facebook fans to become online salespeople of their personalised trainers.

The company has released an app called 'Made By', which will allow users to design up to six pairs of customised trainers. They can then sell them to their Facebook contacts via a personalised storefront on the social network.

For every five pair of trainers sold, Converse will reward the independent seller with a free pair. In addition, those vendors that sell regularly from their Facebook stores will receive a bonus of "something different", which has yet to be decided.

The Converse initiative was developed by creative agency Anomaly London. It will be trialled in the UK and US next month, before being rolled out to other select markets.

Nathan Cooper, Creative Director at Anomaly London, commented: "By inviting people to design and sell their own shoes we've been able to make shopping a relevant part of fans interactions with the brand on Facebook, by making them retailers as well as designers. We wanted to leverage the brand's Facebook following because your best sales people are those that love the brand."
